Biography
Konstantina Orlandatou is a musicologist, multimedia artist and VR developer. She studied composition, music theory, piano and accordion in the Conservatory of Athens before moving to Hamburg, where she studied Multimedia Composition at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama. In 2014, she earned her PhD in Systematic Musicology from the University of Hamburg.
Since 2018, she has been leading the project “Moving Sound Pictures” in which she uses VR technologies as a medium for art mediation, combining visual arts with music. In this project, she reinterprets works by renowned painters, like Kandinsky or Mondrian, transforming their paintings into immersive 3D virtual environments. In these spaces, users can interact with the elements of the paintings generating music through playful interactions.
As both a multimedia artist and VR developer, Orlandatou collaborates with curators and museums such as the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Her vision is to help museums and cultural institutions integrate XR technologies in their permanent exhibitions — presenting the traditional artworks alongside their digital transformations to create interactive and immersive experiences that appeal the audiences of all ages.
Her VR installations have been featured in numerous festivals, conferences and exhibitions in Europe and the United States. Since 2023, she leads the XR Lab of the ligeti center.
