HfMT Hamburg

The Hamburg University of Music and Drama (HfMT) is one of the largest artistic and academic universities in Germany. In addition to classical instrumental and vocal training, teacher training and drama courses, church music and composition/music theory, the range of courses on offer has been expanded since the 1980s to include jazz, pop, cultural and media management, multimedia composition, music therapy, directing music theater / directing drama and dramaturgy.

This breadth of content enables the HfMT to develop interdisciplinary areas of experience and research in addition to its curricular expertise and thus to react quickly and flexibly to new aesthetic and social impulses. In this way, the best possible artistic, academic or pedagogical education is always placed in a reflective relationship to the world around it and manifests itself in the motto “artistic excellence in social responsibility”.

On the one hand, the HfMT’s activities are oriented towards the regional context, with close cooperation in all areas of Hamburg’s cultural scene. On the other hand, it is integrated into a continuously growing network of international partner universities. As a system-accredited university, the subject of quality management is of great importance.

With their diverse biographies and artistic-academic positions, the teaching staff at the University of Music and Drama stand for an education in which they encourage students to reflect critically, to continuously develop and to develop their individual artistic expression. They are committed mentors and trailblazers for a future generation of talented artists, scientists and educators who will have a lasting impact on our society.
