Located in the Hamburg district Harburg, the ligeti center is an interdisciplinary translation center that bridges the arts, science, technology, and health. Named after composer György Ligeti, who had already envisioned a computer music lab in Hamburg in the
1970s, the name “ligeti” also serves as an acronym for “Laboratories for Innovation and General-audience Edification through the Translation of Ideas.”
Expanding Ligeti’s original vision, the ligeti center was established in 2023 as a joint project of the Hamburg University of Music and Drama, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the Hamburg University of Technology, and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. It is funded through the federal and state initiative “Innovative Hochschule.” For more information, visit ligeti-zentrum.de.
